February 2008Responding to the Needs in Our Community
“Changing the next generation, one mother at a time”
is the challenging motto of MY FATHER’S HOUSE LUBBOCK.
This Christian organization ministers to women in need while they
receive mental, emotional, spiritual, educational and vocational support
to change the direction of their lives, restore hope and empower their
future and that of their children. Christian Women’s Job Corp is a
mentoring program within My Father’s House. Christian Women’s Job
Corp provides five sessions per year with women who deeply desire to
change their lives. During each 12-week training period, CWJC
provides one mentor for each lady with the goal of instructing and
guiding her through this process. Mentors must have a
relationship with Jesus Christ, have the spiritual maturity to lead the
ladies to the Lord and His word, and to pray with her through all
things. A mentor and lady will spend at least one hour together
each week. It is very important to possess patience and good
listening skills in order to safely guard her confidences. She
will learn to be an effective leader by observing your own leadership
skills. If you are interested in helping a young woman change the
direction of her life, please call My Father’s House at 799-0990.
Other Volunteer Opportunities:
South Plains Food Bank Kid’s Café Program
is seeking volunteers. SPFB Kid’s Café is an after-school program
designed to combat childhood hunger by providing children of Lubbock’s
economically disadvantaged neighborhoods with nutritious evening meals
in a safe environment. Dedicated volunteers, who will commit to
two hours after school, are needed on a continual basis. Duties
include serving meals and performing light paperwork/role-taking.
Background checks are required. If you are interested, please
contact Becky Jennings at 763-3003 or Tammy Hester at 544-1332.
The following is Lubbock Meals on Wheels’
mission statement: “Respecting the dignity of every human being,
no matter their need or physical condition, Lubbock Meals on Wheels will
provide nutritious, home-delivered meals to those who are homebound,
elderly or disabled. We shall seek to break the social isolation
experienced by the homebound, by providing warm, caring, friendly
contact through our volunteers.” Lubbock Meals on Wheels invites
you to attend their ninth annual Mardi Gras Celebration, February 26,
2008, 5:30pm – 9:00pm, at the Civic Center Exhibit Hall. You will
experience food from over 30 restaurants and food vendors, live jazz
music, entertainers, a silent auction and children’s activities.
Your attendance will provide support for a great program that feeds the
Lubbock area homebound community. Lubbock Meals on Wheels also
invites you to consider supporting the program through volunteering.
