August 2009
Parkridge began in 1993 and opened its doors in Lubbock on September 1,
2008. Parkridge has a unique role in the Lubbock community - to
serve the women of this area, their boyfriends and families in an
unplanned pregnancy. The women who walk through the doors of
Parkridge are often overwhelmed, scared, uncertain of what to do and
sometimes just confused about life. These young women are
searching for truth, unconditional love and hope. This is where
Parkridge’s team of trained volunteer client advocates and registered
nurses have the opportunity to speak into the lives of these women and
meet them where they are – without judgment – by simply sharing Truth in
Love. Parkridge offers the following services: pregnancy
testing, counseling, “Bridges” pregnancy and parenting support program,
post abortion counseling, ultrasounds and STD/STI testing and treatment.
All of these services are offered at no cost to those who are served.
Parkridge is here to spend quality time offering compassionate care and
medical excellence to each client who comes into their medical clinic.
Parkridge provides an educational support program called, “Bridges”,
designed to teach and encourage single, first-time moms. The
curriculum covers pregnancy, nutrition, labor and delivery, newborn
care, parenting and taking care of Mommy. The women attending the
classes earn Mommy$Money to spend at the Parkridge Baby Boutique.
Each weekly class begins with dinner and is taught by an instructor with
expertise in a specific area. The philosophy of our “Bridges”
program is to share valuable information so that a new mom will be
empowered to be the best mommy she can be, rather than simply handing
her diapers without the gift of knowledge. Would you like to know
more about the “Bridges” program or about donating baby items?
Would you and a group of friends or your organization like to provide
dinner for a “Bridges” class? Would you be interested in exploring
other volunteering opportunities at Parkridge? If you are
interested, please call the RSVP office at 743-RSVP (7787), and we will
put you in contact the appropriate person at Parkridge.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers to Feed the Need. Fall
is approaching and Meals on Wheels (MOW) will be losing its summertime
help. In addition, a new route has been added, making a grand
total of 43 routes. Currently 575 meals are delivered daily.
If you are able to donate an hour of your time, you can make an
incredible difference in the life of someone who is homebound, elderly
or disabled. A one-hour orientation is required. All of the
routes are within the city limits, have between 8 and 12 stops and
average about 12 miles. It only takes about one hour to deliver a
route, and you can go as often as you choose. If you are unable to
become a volunteer, you can still help by passing along this information
to your friends, family, civic club, Sunday school class, mission group
or other organizations to help MOW recruit new volunteers!
A special opportunity available for businesses is the Corporate
Volunteer Program. Local businesses are encouraged to participate
by allowing employees to deliver meals during the lunch hour. This
allows employers to be civic minded without excessive loss of staff
time. For convenience, the required orientation may be held at
your place of business. Approximately 35 businesses are currently
involved in this program.
If you are interested in volunteering with Meals on Wheels, please

with Karon McDowell about your interests. If you are not certain
what you would like to do, we can mention several current volunteer

the right job for you. Just mail in the
