Spotlight
On Seniors
By
Cary Magness, Founder
This monthly feature is
designed to recognize Seniors from the community whose lives have been
enriched by the use of the computer.
We appreciate the past contributions of Elizabeth Owen and Katie
Motter, both enjoying the use of the internet to keep in touch with family
and friends…and most recently Ralph Carter who finds the computer an
essential tool to assist him with his genealogical studies.
Since
Lubbock Senior Source is preparing to embark on the next and most exciting
phase of its growth, I’m claiming “executive privilege” to use this
space to share with you, our very important visitors, our plans and goals
for the near future.
“Lubbock
Senior Source is Dedicated to Empowering Seniors.”
That, very simply, is what we are all about.
Knowledge is power and never before has it been so easy to gain
knowledge. The computer and
the internet places the world, with all its information, at our
fingertips. Just
“point-and-click” and even the least experienced computer user will
find it easy to open up the world with all of its information that is
available to us.
When
Lubbock Senior Source was in the design and development stage, I asked
that certain things be accomplished.
The site must be easy to navigate, primarily with a
point-and-click. It should be
as fast as possible (we seniors don’t have a whole lot of time to waste)
and it should be attractive. An
old German antique dealer friend of mine used to say “pleasing to the
eye.”
The
site was designed to include links to many websites specific to the
Lubbock region so that our visitors would be able to have easy access to
the many interesting things to see and do.
It
was also to offer instant access to current news, weather and links to
numerous national websites offering information relating to concerns that
seniors might have. The site
was to be continually updated so that the information would always be
fresh and as interesting as possible.
I
believe, and I hope you will agree, that we have been reasonably
successful in meeting these goals. Now
for the future: soon we plan
to add a message board, include more polls and surveys, and possibly
create a chat-room. We want
to offer an opportunity to subscribe to a free newsletter which will
include not only items of interest, but also chances for free prizes,
tickets and meals. We want
this site to be your site and we ask that you tell us what you would like.
Just point on “Contact Us” and click.
We
want to take this opportunity to extend our thanks to each of the
thousands who have found www.lubbockseniorsource.com
and returned to visit on a regular basis.
We appreciate your using the “Send to a Friend” to tell others
about us…and certainly we also express our gratitude to our sponsors and
advertisers who make this all possible.
My
wish is that, as we go into this Holiday season, you will be blessed with
joy and happiness and remember that America is still the most wonderful
place in the world…and that we ask, God Bless America!
