Military & Veterans Program Assists Students & Military; Movie Night Set for Aug. 10
If you are not already aware, I would like to introduce you to the Texas Tech University Military and Veterans Program. More than 1,300 students attend Texas Tech who are veterans or dependents of veterans. There are more than 350 faculty and staff who have also served in the military, and their number one priority is that veterans earn their degree at Texas Tech.
The mission of the Military and Veterans Program (MVP) at Texas Tech is to assist veterans and their families in achieving academic and personal success. The program assists students it serves in a seamless transition from military to civilian life, supports and encourages campus and community engagement, and helps provide a positive experience through degree completion and on to a successful future.
One of many programs in which the group participates is Cell Phones for Soldiers. This program endeavors to keep military families connected by providing free communication tools to those serving overseas in the U.S. military by recycling used mobile phones.
Used mobile phones from all service providers are accepted. Each donated device valued at $5, will provide troops with 2.5 hours of FREE talk time through calling cards. If you are considering a new cell phone, please donate your old phone to the Military and Veterans Program.
The Lubbock RSVP office will serve as a drop-off site for your phones, and we will ensure your phones are received by the military.
It is a small, but very important, way to show our appreciation for the men and women who sacrifice the day-to-day contact with their own families to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. We are just inside South Loop 289 on Quaker in the old Southwest Medical Building. The Lubbock RSVP office is located at 6630 S. Quaker Ave., Suite E, and you can contact our office at 743-7787 to receive more information about the Military and Veterans Program and Cell Phones for Soldiers. We look forward to seeing you.
