Volunteer Opportunities:
Equine Therapy
Refuge Services, Inc. is a public, non-profit organization providing equine-assisted therapies to individuals of all ages. The service offers hippotherapy and therapeutic riding for children, adolescents, and adults with special needs in Lubbock and surrounding areas.
Refuge provides a therapeutic setting for physical, occupational, speech-language, or licensed counseling professionals to incorporate the therapeutic value of horses into treatment plans.
Incorporation of the horse, as a co-facilitator, provides the therapist or instructor with an effective tool to improve a diagnosed physical, cognitive or sensory deficiency.
Refuge Services needs volunteers to walk alongside their clients as they ride on the therapy horses. Learn more about Refuge Services on the website at www.refugeservices.org .
Meal Deliveries
Lubbock Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers who are able to donate an hour of their time to make an incredible difference in the life of someone who is homebound, elderly or disabled.
A one-hour orientation is required. All of the routes are within the city limits, have between 8 and 12 stops and average about 12 miles.
It only takes about one hour to deliver a route, and drivers can deliver as often as you choose.
If you are unable to become a volunteer, you can still help by passing along this information to your friends, family, civic club, Sunday School class, mission group, or other organizations to help recruit new volunteers.
A special opportunity available for businesses is the Corporate Volunteer Program. Local businesses are encouraged to participate by allowing employees to deliver meals during the lunch hour. This allows employers to be civic minded without excessive loss of staff time. For convenience, the required orientation may be held at your place of business.
