January 2014 RSVP Voice!

| January 6, 2014

You are retired. You’ve adapted to no alarm clock, no 8 to 5 job, no schedules; you’ve had visits with the children and grandchildren, and you’ve taken that trip of a lifetime.
You’ve gained a lifetime of experience, and now is the time to continue to put your skills and talents to use by volunteering through RSVP.
RSVP is America’s largest volunteer network for people age 55 and over.
Join RSVP, and you join approximately 600 volunteers in Lubbock and nearly 500,000 senior volunteers across the country who are tackling tough issues in our communities.
As we age, staying engaged in work and formal volunteer activities significantly benefits our well-being and that of the organizations we serve.
Volunteering also benefits the people who are served by those organizations as well as the entire Lubbock community.
Volunteering is a way to:

  • Improve community life
  • Meet community needs by:
    • Mentoring students to help improve their learning performance
    • Helping improve the health and wellness of individuals
    • Increasing opportunities for veterans and military families, including veterans serving veterans
    • Increasing opportunities for economically vulnerable families
    • Increasing our community’s ability to serve vulnerable populations in the event of a disaster
  • Give hope
  • Use your mind, body and creativity
  • Continue growing and expanding your skills and talents
  • Give your retirement life a sense of purpose
  • Live beyond yourself

Volunteering leads to new discoveries and new friends; it helps you live longer and promotes a positive outlook on life.
January is the beginning of a new year.
RSVP would be delighted to help you find volunteer opportunities that match your interests, skills, sense of adventure, sense of humor, compassion, goals, time, abilities and experiences.
If you are interested in any of Lubbock’s volunteer opportunities or would like to know more about Lubbock RSVP, call the Lubbock RSVP office at 743-7787.

Today is a good day to volunteer!
