Volunteer Opportunities:
Lubbock Meals on Wheels
Lubbock Meals on Wheels is in need of volunteer drivers, both regular and substitute, to deliver meals each day.
You can deliver one day a month, one day a week, or whatever schedule will work for you.
Each route can be delivered in approximately one hour. For more information, contact the Meals on Wheels office at 806-792-7971.
Stop Senior Hunger
The Stop Senior Hunger drive will take place in September. Did you know that one in every nine seniors is at risk of hunger?
Chances are hunger affects someone you know and/or love.
Comfort Keepers and many other companies are partnering with Lubbock Meals on Wheels to feed seniors in the Lubbock Meals on Wheels Weekend Meal Bag Program.
These seniors have no other means to obtain weekend food other than that provided through Lubbock Meals on Wheels.
The goal is to raise awareness of the growing epidemic of malnutrition that impacts millions of older Americans and to collect specific food items to fill 3,500 bags (approximately 7,500 lbs.) for Lubbock Meals on Wheels Weekend Meal Bag Program.
On Sept. 14, you will be able to donate food items outside Wal-Mart at 82nd and Milwaukee or Loop 289 & Quaker.
Here is the grocery list for the Weekend Meal Bag Program: cereal bars; individual containers of mac and cheese; individual containers of fruit cups; vienna sausage; Ensure nutrition shakes; individual cereal boxes; pudding and Jello cups; granola bars; peanut butter to go; microwave popcorn.
Each weekend meal bag contains two frozen meals plus eight of the items listed above.
Comfort Corps
RSVP Comfort Corps is in need of c fabric to construct pillows and walker/wheelchair pockets, 4-ply acrylic yarn for afghans, lap robes, caps and scarves that will be donated to non-profit agencies. If you have fabric or yarn that you no longer need, and it’s clean and smoke-free, please consider donating it to RSVP.
